Jans wee Music Page

Jan at Café Köbner

Hi,

this page is a small collection of things around my interest in music.

First of all a collection of the songs that I have written.

Then there are some links to other pages that I like or find usefull.

There are special pages for all the friends of Music in the Castle. Now, there is a user management and a communication area. If You want me to add pictures or MP3s or scores to that page, please contact me.

At last some pictures.

Songs

I can't be Your Knight (Ich bin kein Ritter)

Many relationships suffer from wrong expectations and the inability to communicate - this is the topic of this song.

This song was written over a longer period but finished on a workshop with Mike Silver at La Jeusseliniere. This is the reason for the parts in French.

Saint of no Returns (Der Segen des nicht Umkehrens)

Sometines we consider it a blessing, to leave things behind us. I know people, who haste from one new thing to the next one. But in the end it will be a curse, cause there was on time for the growth of the really important things.

This song started with an encounter with a tractor on an early jogging tour. I was already on my return trip waved the drive. Suddenly I noticed that I had used me fingers in a way, that is normally used for a blessing. Immediatly the line "I am the saint of no returns" stuck into my head. The rest was work.

Ein neues Leben / A brand new life

The news of the birth of Jan Wallhäuser (02/11/2005) inspired this song. One night I was forced to haste out of my bed to write down the chorus. The miracle of a new life, a gift of God and at the same time an allegory of His love...

Precious Moments (Der Wert des Augenblicks)

This song emerged from the La Jeusseliniere expirience in the summer of 2004. It's theme reflects Erich Fromms book “Haben und Sein” (To have and to be), but it is also a hint, that heaven might begin now if we learn to let things go.

If there is a God (Wenn es einen Gott gibt)

The text was written after one of these discussions, why God allows all this suffering. Under the influence of Martyn Wyndham-Read, it became my first tune in Drop-D.

Was braucht ein kleiner Bär (What is needed by a little bear)

This is my first song ever. It has started as a poem for the baptism of Bjarne Tödte and was then, with a little help of Kai Ahrens, turned into a evening song.

I'm no companion tonight (Ich bin heute Nacht keine gute Gesellschaft)

If life is going down the wrong road your are sometimes exposed to feelings you can not control. It is then good to remember the shelter of Gods love and it is even better to have friends that give ears and arms to that love. Not only a tune can turn from minor to major...

Out of a smoo(ther) Cave (Aus einer sanfteren/Schmuggler Höhle)

Miklas Borbe has introduced me to Scotland, the music and the people. Our trip has resulted in a complete CD and one track is the first real recording of my guitar playing. Listening to it makes me feel blessed and very, very thankful.

The final Meadow (Die letzte Weide)

This song started out of one of Stan's word games. The image of a matched pair of shire hores was so strong, that it should become a song. A coproduction of three persons tends always to end somewhere unexpected and thus it became a song about the circle of teaching in beeing tought.
